11-2:00 Keynote Brunch with ELIJAH WALD: Noted music journalist Elijah Wald gives the Summit’s keynote talk over a seated buffet brunch. Wald has been writing about blues and roots music for over ten years as "world music" writer for the Boston Globe. He has won numerous awards, including a 2002 Grammy for the liner notes to the Arhoolie Records 40th Anniversary Box and the 2001 Best Performing Arts Book award from the Independent Publishers association for Josh White: Society Blues. Wald currently teaches blues history at UCLA and is working on an alternative history of American popular music.

Mr. Wald will be introduced at the keynote brunch by York University professor and Grammy Award winning liner note authority Rob Bowman.

2:15-3:30: Canadian Festivals Roundtable Discussion: Canadian Festivals Roundtable Discussion: Blues festivals live in the shadow of the jazz and folk festivals in some cities, but regional and national common ground is the premise of this session including networking, lobbying and comparing notes. Hosted by Brent Staeben (Fredricton), Brian Slack (Mount Tremblant), Ted Boomer (Windsor) and open to all festival representatives.

2:15-3:30: Career Development Strategy: Career Development Strategy: Touring, Grants, and Showcases. Richard Davis (Canada Council), Dan Kershaw (SOCAN), Elaine Bomberry (Rez Bluez) and Suzie Vinnick talk through the challenges and insights of making a living in your home market and touring into new ones.

Websites, Sonicbids, Myspace, and YouTube as marketing tools. NorthernBlues honcho Fred Litwin talks about the 14,000 friends he has cultivated at MySpace with viral marketing activists Krista Lamb (Anya Wilson Publicity), Jennifer Claveau (Speak Music) and webmistress extraordinaire, Lily Sazz.

3:45-5:00: Blues in the Schools:  Blues in the Schools: Mark Stafford (Toronto), Ron Beer (Oshawa), Chris Murphy (London) carry the blues to young audiences through teaching programmes and hook ups with teachers who care about the blues message getting to young people.

5:30-7:30 SOCAN Songs and Stories: Harry Manx, Treasa Levasseur, Kyle Riabko, and Chris Kirby. SOCAN Member Relations Manager Dan Kershaw plays Phil Donahue with veteran blues fusionist Harry Manx, soulful Toronto singer Treasa Levasseur and new kids on the proverbial block Chris Kirby (St. John's) and Kyle Riabko (Saskatoon).

10:00-11:15: Acoustic Blues, African and Caribbean Guitar: Elijah Wald in performance. Get up close with the man who has written up Dave Van Ronk and Robert Johnson but is connecting the dots between the delta, the Caribbean guitar of Joseph Spence and West Africa.

10:00-11:15: Blues Society Roundtable: A gathering of associations and interest groups from across Canada hosted by Liz Sykes (Ottawa), Brian Slack (Montreal), Derek Andrews (Toronto) but inclusive of everyone currently running or planning to run a community based organization.

11:30-12:45 Jim Crow Blues: Racism & the Evolution of Popular Music. For over a century, the Blues has profoundly influenced every form of popular music, from Jazz to Rock to Soul to Hip-Hop. In this multi-media presentation, Ian Angus discusses how African-Americans created the Blues in response to oppression and terrorism in the southern United States, how it migrated from the rural south to northern ghettos, and how the music has changed and evolved as the Black community has changed.

11:30-12:45: Dream Venue: What if there was a place for musicians to come together for jam sessions, rehearsals and collaboration?

2:00-3:15: Digital #2: Downloading, Distribution, and the Death of the CD. Did you put ISRC code on your plastic? If so, you're probably moving units by song on CDBaby like Mark "Bird" Stafford who is joined by Holger Petersen (Stony Plain) and Joan Berger (Jericho Beach Music / Festival Distribution) and Laura Brehaut (Iceberg Radio).

2:00-3:15: The Blues Brand: How to make it appeal to young audiences. Rick Zolkower has been taken to strange musical places by his offspring, and they like what he does, but they don't care if it is called blues. A brainstorming session on developing new markets and audiences for blues, (especially those under 25). Rick will be joined by Earl Krushelnicki from the Prince George, Blues Underground, one of the country's most successful blues presenters.

3:30-4:45: Blues Song: A close-up and interactive look at blues songwriting with some of the best, featuring Colin Linden, Suzie Vinnick, Paul Reddick.

3:30-4:45: Blues Collectibles: Memorabilia, eBay trading and the treasure trove of blues photos, posters and archiving with veteran collectors "Dave Daddy Cool" Booth, Mark Bird Stafford, Danny Marks and Eddy B.
