The Toronto Blues Society will hold a special workshop for Toronto-area songwriters on Sunday October 30 at the Horseshoe Tavern, 368 Queen St. West in Toronto. The workshop will be presented in partnership with the Songwriters’ Association of Canada.
The informative and entertaining workshop will be hosted by Suzie Vinnick and is designed to include both novice and seasoned songwriters as well as blues enthusiasts. The assembled panel includes some of the most successful blues songwriters in Canada. Together, they will discuss about influences, styles, and experiences, answer questions, and perform their compositions.
Hosting the evening is award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Suzie Vinnick . She recently won firsst place in the Blues Category of the International Songwriting Contest (ISC) for her co-write entitled "The Honey I Want", was awarded the 2003 Maple Blues Female Vocalist of the Year, and was nominated again as the 2004 Maple Blues Female Vocalist of the Year. A Canadian songwriting treasure, Suzie has appeared regularly on the CBC’s Saturday Night Blues and Vinyl Café.
Suzie will be joined on stage by four of Canada’s most interesting blues songwriters:
Jack de Keyzer has been working as a blues guitarist, singer and songwriter since age 18. His latest Juno Award-winning CD, "6 String Lover" (Blues Album of the Year) is the latest milestone in the lifelong musical journey of a contemporary blues journeyman.
Eve Goldberg is an engaging performer with a warm, relaxed stage presence. Eve's songs about the everyday lives of ordinary people have been described as indistinguishable from enduring classics.
Paul Reddick is considered one of the most original and inventive singer-songwriters in blues today; a strong, soulful vocalist with a unique vision of the blues.
Chris Whiteley has been performing, writing, and recording blues music for over 25 years. Chris has four Juno nominations, and has written a top ten Canadian country hit for Prairie Oyster. He has also had his songs recorded by such artists as Cindy Church, Penny Lang, McGinty, Quartette, and Fathead.
The songwriting workshop is part of the Toronto Blues Society's ongoing programme. It is made possible by the generous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
