THE FINALISTS ARE....

The Toronto Blues Society 8th Annual Talent Search Finalists Announced.

The top six blues acts have been chosen from entries received from all across Canada. 
A screening panel reviewed three songs by each artist or band. 
Each of the finalists will perform one live set in the finals at The Silver Dollar, June 13-14, 2003.

DOCTOR NICK & THE ROLLERCOASTERS

DOCTOR NICK AND THE ROLLERCOASTERS
have been playing straight ahead blues for the past 25 years. They present a tight ensemble sound reminiscent of the early, electrified south side of Chicago. 

Friday, June 13, 11 p.m.
THE WOLFPACK
 
THE WOLFPACK are five First Nations brothers who got into music at a young age when the eldest picked up the guitar and taught the others about blues music. The debut album from the Martin brothers, titled “Every Lil' Thing”, is due out May 18, 2003.

MR. RICK & THE BISCUITS
MR. RICK AND THE BISCUITS are self-proclaimed experts at skillet frying pork and swinging the blues. Their eclectic sound mixes blues with country and gospel.

Odyssey Blues BandSaturday, June 14, 10 p.m.
ODYSSEY BLUES BAND featuring Suzanne Hyatt
ODYSSEY BLUES BAND takes a fun R&B spin on the blues featuring the powerful voice of lead singer Suzanne Hyatt. The band comprises veteran musicians from Niagara, Toronto and Kingston. 

Madd ScientistsSaturday, June 14, 11 p.m.
MADD SCIENTISTS
 
MADD SCIENTISTS featuring Jim Layeux, are a trio of rockin’ blues stylists who have been performing together for a little over a year. Regularly gigging in Toronto and Ottawa, they describe themselves as ‘lucky’ and ‘truly mad.’ 

Dylan WickensSaturday, June 14, 12 p.m.
DYLAN WICKENS
 
DYLAN WICKENS BAND is a Toronto- based four-piece band whose songs serve up a tasty mix of shuffle and jump blues. Their second CD “Fall Down Go Boom!” was released earlier this year.

 

The winning group will perform at the Labatt Blue's Festival at Harbourfront Centre, July 5th at 5 p.m. in Toronto. This performance will be recorded for national broadcast on CBC Radio's "Saturday Night Blues." The winner will also receive a recording date at Alec Fraser's renowned Liquid studio, as well as a professional studio photo shoot courtesy of Rick Zolkower.

 

Bands and musicians who have not made a nationally distributed or major record label recording and whose music is considered blues-based, qualified for entry. The material submitted must have been recorded during the past two years and original material was encouraged.
