DAVID ROTUNDO & THE BLUE CANADIANS

TORONTO, June 1, 2002…… After two exciting nights of finalists performing for the title of The Toronto Blues Society Talent Search Winners for 2002, DAVID ROTUNDO & THE BLUE CANADIANS took the honour and the prize pack designed to give further exposure to the group.

For winning the 7th Annual Toronto Blues Society Talent Search, DAVID ROTUNDO & THE BLUE CANADIANS receive $1,000 as winner of CBC Galaxie's Rising Stars Award and a performance at the Labatt Blue's Festival at Harbourfront Centre, (July 6, 5pm) in Toronto, to be recorded for national broadcast on CBC Radio's Saturday Night Blues.

"We feel extremely honored to be chosen as the winners of the TBS new talent contest. But we're also thankful that the TBS is putting forth the energy to organize such events. It's a great opportunity and avenue for present and future blues bands to be recognized and this is what can help preserve and develop blues music as an art form." --David Rotundo & The Blue Canadians

The Toronto Blues Society received entries received from all across Canada. From these entries, a screening panel narrowed it down to six finalists. The other finalists were BLUES PARLOUR from Barrie, Ontario, PAPPY JOHNS BAND a Six Nations blues group from Fort Erie, Ontario, DEEP DISH DELUXE featuring Kieron Lafferty on vocals and harmonica, THE BEBOP COWBOYS, a western swing group, and ODYSSEY BLUES BAND with Suzanne Hyatt. All five runners-up receive a cash prize of $300 each.

This event is supported by Galaxie, CBC's Continuous Music Network (http://www.galaxie.ca/anglais/0/).
