Background:

The long, oval stand-up bar at the back of Albert's Hall was the location for one of the primal developments in organizing Toronto's blues community. It was the first meeting of what would become the Toronto Blues Society. The club had kick-started the enthusiasm many of us felt for the blues, but, if you had grown up in Toronto, you would have seen waves of enthusiasm rise and fall.

We weren't about to let the scene fall apart again; thus, we organized. The motley crew that came to be that initial meeting would be proud of this publication, now evolving into an on-line version of itself, one more step in a positive direction. After sixteen plus years, there have been many steps, as you can see, by the wealth of information contained in these pages.

Diverse, eclectic and dynamic -- that is the impression one could derive from surfing around BluesBook Online. We hope to have captured the spectrum of blues activity and resources in the Toronto and Canadian blues community.

We hope you enjoy the benefits of this project. We hope you hire blues musicians to play. We hope blues musicians find more gigs. We hope radio stations play more blues music. And, we hope to continue to keep this online directory up-to-date (without your having to wait for new editions, like the hard copy version). This is our record of our talented blues community.
