TBS logoTwo Thousand and Seven: We are in for another big year with the tenth anniversary of the Maple Blues Awards and the third edition of Canada's essential blues meeting, Blues Summit III. To revitalize the TBS Board team we have recruited five new members of the community to assist with organizing, three to the Musicians Advisory Council and two to the Board of Directors itself. We also see the departure of guitar playing Air Canada pilot Dan Dufour, who is just too busy a guy to continue. We thank Dan for his contributions and wish him good luck / safe travels always.

Coming on to the TBS board are Golden Horseshore blues organizer Mark Neveu and steadfast volunteer Sharon Evans. To the Musicians Advisory we will see Orillia based Lance Anderson (Make It Real / Anderson Sloski), Mark "Bird" Stafford and man about town Rick Zolkower. We look forward to their contributions in the coming year.

Grants Officer Barbara Isherwood reports that the TBS successfully secured a three year Trilliium grant to further develop infrastructure and marketing initiatives. This will offset a drop in funding for Blues Summit III since Canada Council and the federal Trade Routes programmes did not return.

The twentieth edition of the Women's Blues Revue exceeded previous box office numbers and was broadcast live to the nation night of show on Saturday Night Blues. On hand was man-at-the-mike Holger Petersen, who joined Sounds Like Canada host and steady rollin' emcee Shelagh Rogers. The powerful night of performances was a fitting crescendo to the energies of many behind the scene, including band leader Lily Sazz who laboured tirelessly on the disc, Women's Blues Revue Live, a compilation of previously recorded tracks from over the years.

As a major blues convergence takes place this coming month, we prepare for another twelve months of action packed blues activity. We thank the TBS members, sponsors, volunteers, board of directors and rock solid office staff Rick Battison and Stefan Read. We look forward to continuing to support blues musicians and keeping Toronto the blues capital of Canada.

- Derek Andrews, President, Toronto Blues Society
