| Chris Beard, (right) called the Prince of The Blues by many plays the Silver Dollar on Saturday, May 6 (9pm). Born in Rochester N.Y. into a blues family (his father is the legendary Joe Beard) he has memories of family guests being the likes of Buddy Guy and Matt Murphy. After years of working with his father and being influenced by Luther Allison, Albert King and Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Beard set out to create an identity for himself as a songwriter, guitarist and singer. His first recording Barwalkin won him a W. C. Handy nomination in 98. Born To Play The Blues followed in 2001 and his third release Live Wire, on NorthernBlues Music followed in 2005. Chris Beard is a member on the new generation, poised to take the music into the new millenium and beyond. |
The Toronto blues scene took a big hit when one of the country's most influential bluesmen moved to the Maritimes. Well the phenomenal Morgan Davis will be back for a gig at Hugh's Room on Wednesday, May 10, a rare opportunity to hear a true pioneer of Canadian Blues in an ideal listening environment. He will be backed up by Alec Fraser and Al Lerman. Morgan will be doing several other Ontario dates, see listings.
