The Scotty Doubt Band wins the Toronto Blues Society Talent Search
The Toronto Blues Society is pleased to announce that the winner of our fifth annual Talent Search is the Scotty Doubt Band, from Ottawa, Ontario.
Scotty Doubt has been a figure on the Ottawa blues scene since 1996, when he won the Ottawa Blues Guitar Competition. Describing his approach to blues guitar as, " traditional, stripped down and clean," Doubt cites Duke Robillard, Jimmie Vaughan and Ronnie Earl as significant influences.
Doubt's talents have led him to work with a long list of Canadian and international blues acts, including Otis Grand, Tommy Castro, Jumpin' Johnny Sansone, Tony D, Sue Foley, Steve Hill, Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, and Dutch Mason. In 1999, he formed his own project, The Scotty Doubt Band, which features big-voiced front man T.S. Harpoon, U.S. ex-patriate "Reverend" Billy Mitchell on Hammond B-3, Tony D. sideman Sean Burke on bass, and drummer Billy Brennan, a blues veteran who has performed with Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Jr. Wells and James Cotton. The ensemble hit the big stage immediately, opening for Duke Robillard at the Ottawa Citzien Bluesfest. A debut recording will be out soon.
As winners of the fifth annual Toronto Blues Society Talent Search, the Scotty Doubt Band will perform on July 8, 5 p.m., in the Brigantine Room, 235 Queens Quay W., in Toronto, as part of Harbourfront Centre's Great Canadian Blues and BBQ Festival. The performance will be recorded for national broadcast by CBC Radio's "Saturday Night Blues". Be there and see a vital new face on the Canadian blues scene.
